Recent forecasts from MetService and international models indicate a southerly change arriving Thursday, September 10, bringing increasing cloud, showers turning to rain, and northwest winds shifting southerly, which typically caps daytime warming in Wellington through reduced insolation and cooler maritime air. These conditions align with historical September maxima near 12–13 °C and support the market’s concentration of probability on 13–14 °C outcomes. Traders appear to weigh the potential for brief clearing or delayed frontal passage that could allow a slightly higher peak against the dominant signal for suppressed temperatures, with model consensus expected to tighten as 48-hour guidance updates.
