Chicago Cubs hold a pitching edge in the April 17 series opener at Wrigley Field, with Edward Cabrera (1-0, 1.62 ERA) facing Kodai Senga (0-2, 7.07 ERA) amid the Mets' seven-game losing streak and 7-11 record. Juan Soto's right calf strain sidelines New York's key slugger, straining their lineup further, while Cubs starter benefits from home-field advantage and a slightly better 8-9 mark with positive run differential. Both rotations are thinned by injuries—Mets' Clay Holmes day-to-day (hamstring), Cubs' Justin Steele and Jordan Wicks on IL (elbows)—heightening bullpen importance. Early-season form and Wrigley winds could sway this NL matchup between sub-.500 clubs.
