Both the San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs enter their late-June series at similar 40-37 records, with the Padres holding second place in the NL West and the Cubs third in the NL Central. Recent roster challenges include multiple Padre pitchers on the injured list, such as German Marquez and Matt Waldron, alongside catcher Luis Campusano and infielder Jake Cronenworth, while the Cubs have dealt with pitching staff absences earlier in the season. San Diego’s recent form includes a victory over the Braves on June 23, and both clubs face questions around bullpen reliability and starting rotation depth heading into the matchup. Weather and travel factors could also influence outcomes in this interleague contest.
