Wesley So holds the top spot in Norway Chess 2026 standings with a slim lead after round eight, supported by consistent classical results and Armageddon successes that have kept him ahead of a tightening field. Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu narrowed the gap with classical victories over Magnus Carlsen and others, demonstrating strong recent form against elite opposition, while Alireza Firouzja rebounded with a win over Gukesh Dommaraju but trails after earlier setbacks. The double round-robin format with Armageddon tiebreaks favors players maintaining momentum through the final two rounds in Oslo, where head-to-head records and current point totals shape trader consensus on the implied probabilities for each contender.
