Top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz, fresh off a 6-4, 6-2 second-round win over qualifier Otto Virtanen at the ATP Barcelona Open on clay, advances to face Tomas Machac, who rallied past Sebastian Baez in three sets. Alcaraz, recently dethroned as World No. 1 after a Monte-Carlo Masters final loss to Jannik Sinner, showed minor forearm discomfort early but dominated thereafter, leveraging home-crowd support and his elite clay pedigree—boasting multiple Barcelona titles and a 14-match clay win streak earlier this year. Machac impressed by taking a set off Sinner in Monte-Carlo's round of 16 but enters as an underdog against Alcaraz's superior rankings, surface history, and draw path featuring Rublev in quarters, de Minaur in semis; no prior head-to-head exists, heightening upset intrigue amid favorable outdoor conditions.
