In the BMW Open round of 16 on clay in Munich, world No. 6 Ben Shelton faces No. 72 Alexander Blockx in their first head-to-head matchup. Shelton, runner-up at this ATP 250 event last year, advanced past Emilio Nava 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-3 in a gritty first-round comeback on Monday, extending his strong early-season form after winning the Dallas Open title. The 21-year-old Belgian Blockx, on a hot clay streak with a Houston quarterfinal run upsetting Denis Shapovalov and Flavio Cobolli before falling to Alex de Minaur, impressed in his Munich debut by downing local Yannick Hanfmann 7-6(2), 6-2. Shelton's powerful serve and top-10 experience contrast Blockx's rising momentum and two-handed backhand, with no reported injuries shaping trader consensus toward the American's edge on this outdoor red clay.
