High refinery runs, elevated export demand for US crude, and steady domestic production around 13.8 million barrels per day continue to pressure stocks downward, consistent with the EIA’s August Short-Term Energy Outlook projecting inventories below the five-year average through year-end. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve’s ongoing drawdown to 289.7 million barrels reflects prior emergency releases but does not directly affect commercial levels. Weekly EIA reports through mid-September, alongside any shifts in global supply from Middle East disruptions or refinery maintenance, represent the key near-term catalysts that could determine the trajectory into late September.
