Trader sentiment for May 2026 durable goods orders month-over-month shows pronounced uncertainty, with the heaviest weighting on declines exceeding 4%. Elevated interest rates have continued to pressure business equipment and transportation spending, while recent manufacturing PMI readings and softening new orders data point to restrained capital investment. Mixed signals from consumer demand and inventory levels add further dispersion, as do typical seasonal adjustments and historical revisions in the Census Bureau series. Key near-term catalysts include industrial production releases and any shifts in Fed communications that could alter rate expectations before the data drop.
