Meta Platforms shares have traded under pressure since the July 29 earnings release, with the stock falling nearly 10% after reporting a sharp rise in AI-related capital expenditures to a $130–145 billion range for 2026 and missing EPS expectations despite 28% revenue growth. Heavy infrastructure spending compressed free cash flow and margins, triggering an 11-day losing streak that left the share price near $589 as of August 5. Analysts remain constructive on long-term AI monetization and ad-platform strength, maintaining buy ratings and elevated price targets, while regulatory scrutiny on AI safety and competitive positioning against other large language model developers add near-term uncertainty ahead of the August 6 close.
