The San Diego Padres hold a clearer edge entering their home series against the New York Mets at Petco Park, buoyed by a superior 32-24 record and second-place standing in the NL West compared to the Mets’ 24-33 mark in the NL East. Recent form tilts against San Diego after dropping seven of eight, including multiple losses to the Phillies marked by poor hitting with runners in scoring position, while New York showed offensive momentum in a recent win over Seattle. Both clubs deal with injury-list depth—Padres outfield and infield absences alongside Mets placements for key infielders—which could influence lineup construction and bullpen usage across the three-game set. Starting pitching matchups, including Christian Scott’s first career outing versus San Diego, add another layer for assessing run totals and game outcomes in this interleague matchup.
