President-elect Trump's longstanding criticism of Japan's trade practices, including auto exports and currency policies, anchors trader sentiment for his potential remarks during upcoming engagements with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. A cordial November 22 phone call between the leaders emphasized alliance strengthening and mutual congratulations, signaling diplomatic goodwill amid U.S.-Japan security ties against China and North Korea threats. No in-person events are confirmed, but Ishiba seeks an early bilateral summit post-January 20 inauguration, possibly at Mar-a-Lago. Traders weigh Trump's "America First" rhetoric against alliance imperatives, with market probabilities reflecting bets on tariff references or positive economic nods based on historical precedent from his first term.
