In the BMW Open qualifying first round on Munich's outdoor clay, higher-ranked Andrea Pellegrino (No. 134) faces veteran Lorenzo Giustino (No. 209) in a matchup pitting recent form against head-to-head dominance. Pellegrino enters with momentum from a round-of-32 win at the Santiago ATP 250 clay event last month and a competitive Monte Carlo qualifying loss to Alexander Shevchenko on April 4, showcasing solid baseline play. Giustino, who leads their rivalry 3-1—all on clay with the latest in 2022 Vicenza—has faltered lately, dropping Challenger decisions like a three-setter to Mili Poljičak in Barletta. No injury concerns reported; expect a grinding affair favoring endurance on the slower surface.
