Ongoing gang violence and funding shortfalls continue to threaten Haiti's scheduled first-round presidential and legislative elections on August 30, 2026, creating balanced trader sentiment around another delay. The Provisional Electoral Council maintains the August date while acknowledging security and resource constraints, following the April postponement of voter registration with no revised timeline issued. Transitional authorities, including Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, have registered over 300 political groups and reaffirmed plans to complete polls by early 2027, yet persistent instability has already shifted prior 2025 targets. Any measurable progress on territorial control or international support could reinforce the current schedule, while further disruptions to registration or campaign logistics would likely increase delay odds.
