Flávio Bolsonaro’s position as the leading contender for second place in Brazil’s October 4 first round stems from consistent polling averages placing him well ahead of other opposition figures, backed by Liberal Party nomination and endorsement from his imprisoned father, former president Jair Bolsonaro. This consolidation of conservative and right-wing support contrasts with fragmented alternatives, including Renan Santos of the Mission Party and candidates such as Ronaldo Caiado or Romeu Zema, who register single-digit support. Incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s re-election bid for the Workers’ Party remains the clear first-round frontrunner amid voter priorities on crime and economic issues. Recent audio revelations tied to Flávio Bolsonaro produced only modest polling shifts, while Lula’s recent convention confirmation and ongoing bilateral tensions with the United States have not altered the established hierarchy. Traders price these dynamics as durable through the campaign’s final months.
