If no 2026 California gubernatorial primary takes place by December 31, 2026, this market will resolve to “Other.” This market will resolve based on the results of the primary election for Governor of California as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the government of California, specifically the Office of the Secretary of State. The June 2, 2026, top-two primary results placed Democrat Xavier Becerra first and Republican Steve Hilton second among more than 60 candidates, locking in one nominee from each major party for the November general election. Becerra consolidated Democratic support ahead of a crowded field that included Tom Steyer and Katie Porter, while Hilton outperformed fellow Republican Chad Bianco and avoided vote splitting that might have elevated another Democrat into the top two. Pre-primary polling averages had shown the same ordering, and early returns aligned closely with final tallies exceeding 93 percent counted. This outcome matches long-standing patterns in California's nonpartisan primary system for statewide races. Certification of results or legal challenges remain the only realistic paths that could reopen the question, though margins make such shifts improbable.
