Incumbent Republican Nick Begich faces 14 challengers in Alaska’s August 18 nonpartisan top-four primary for the at-large U.S. House seat, with the field now set after the June 1 filing deadline. The open primary advances the four highest vote-getters to the November general election, which uses ranked-choice voting. Recent developments include organized efforts by Democratic-aligned groups and independent candidates such as Bill Hill and Matt Schultz to consolidate anti-incumbent support, alongside endorsements and fundraising activity among the top contenders. Voter turnout, preference rankings, and fragmentation among lesser-known candidates will determine advancement amid Alaska’s history of competitive statewide races.
