Alaska's August 18 top-four primary features a crowded field of more than 15 candidates vying for advancement to the November ranked-choice general in an open-seat race, as term-limited incumbent Mike Dunleavy cannot run. Republicans Click Bishop and Dave Bronson, Democrat Tom Begich, and independent former Governor Bill Walker rank among the more prominent entrants following the filing deadline and recent withdrawals. With the primary just weeks away, factors such as name recognition, endorsements, fundraising, and late voter outreach in the nonpartisan ballot are likely to determine which four candidates clear the threshold, creating a competitive environment where modest shifts in turnout or support could alter outcomes.
