Canada’s next federal general election is fixed for no later than October 15, 2029, following the 2025 vote that produced a Liberal minority government under Prime Minister Mark Carney. An earlier dissolution remains possible if the government loses a confidence vote or the prime minister advises the governor general to call one, yet no such trigger has materialized. Recent activity centers on three federal by-elections set for August 31, 2026, and routine legislative business, with no reported opposition motions or supply defeats that would force an immediate contest. Trader pricing on early-call dates in 2026 reflects the absence of acute parliamentary instability or strategic incentives for a snap vote, while the fixed-date framework and historical patterns of minority governments lasting their term continue to anchor expectations.
