In the Wuning Challenger semifinal on hard courts, world No. 251 Fajing Sun faces No. 299 Pavel Kotov in their first head-to-head matchup, with both advancing convincingly this week. Sun, playing at home in China, has dropped zero sets—dispatching Ethan Cook, Philip Sekulic, and crushing Justin Boulais 6-1 6-1 in the quarterfinals yesterday—bolstered by 86% first-serve points won and 53% break-point conversion. Kotov, boasting a stellar 16-3 record in 2026 including Koblenz and Cherbourg Challenger titles, grinded out a resilient 2-6 7-6(5) 6-3 quarterfinal win over Ilia Simakin after straight-set victories earlier, firing 18 aces tournament-wide. Sun's crowd support and serve edge counter Kotov's superior recent form and physical advantages (191cm height), setting a competitive clash on an outdoor hard court with no reported injuries or weather disruptions.
