Recent euro area data show inflation remaining elevated at 3.3% in August amid energy price spikes tied to Middle East tensions, prompting the ECB's September 10 deposit rate hike to 2.50%. Staff projections now see headline inflation averaging 3.0% for 2026 before easing later, with growth revised upward to 0.9% on stronger resilience in manufacturing and exports. Markets price further tightening into year-end meetings, yet the October decision and incoming labor, wage, and energy readings could clarify whether second-round effects justify an additional move or support holding steady through December. Geopolitical developments and fresh projections will likely determine the balance between these paths.
