Second-seeded Ben Shelton, world No. 6, advanced to the BMW Open round of 16 with a gritty three-set win over Emilio Nava on Monday, extending his perfect ATP 500 record this year after reaching the 2025 final in Munich on clay. Challenger-level riser Alexander Blockx, ranked No. 71 with a career-high this week, impressed in his main-draw debut by defeating Yannick Hanfmann 7-6(?), 6-2, showcasing baseline solidity and serving prowess on the outdoor clay at MTTC Iphitos. No prior head-to-head exists between the pair; Shelton's top-10 power and Munich experience contrast Blockx's momentum from recent Challenger titles, though clay conditions could test Shelton's aggressive style amid potential fatigue from a three-setter. Traders weigh Shelton's seeding edge against Blockx's upset potential in this first meeting.
