The closely matched probabilities across turnout ranges for South Carolina’s November 3 Senate contest reflect substantial uncertainty driven by the July death of Republican nominee Lindsey Graham, the subsequent appointment of his sister Darline Graham, and the August special primary runoff. These events have complicated standard midterm mobilization patterns in a state with roughly 3.4 million registered voters. Historical general election participation has typically fallen between 1.4 million and 2 million ballots, but reduced primary turnout—under 500,000 in the June Republican contest—signals potentially lower enthusiasm. The race remains rated Likely Republican, limiting national attention and get-out-the-vote intensity. Developments such as candidate visibility in the final weeks, early voting trends, or shifts in Democratic opposition could widen the range of likely totals.
