Recent forecasts from the National Weather Service and models indicate a high near 64–65°F for Chicago on September 21, driven by a cooler northeast flow behind a frontal passage and widespread cloud cover that limits daytime heating. Persistent showers or drizzle, combined with gusty northeast winds of 15–20 mph, further suppress the maximum by enhancing mixing and reducing insolation. This setup contrasts with the seasonal average high of roughly 74°F, reflecting a stronger-than-normal maritime influence from the Great Lakes region. Traders’ near-even split between the 62–63°F and 64–65°F bins captures residual uncertainty in the precise peak, which hinges on the timing and intensity of any morning showers versus partial afternoon clearing. Updated model runs and National Weather Service briefings in the next 48 hours will likely narrow the range.
