The open seat created by Republican incumbent Ashley Hinson’s Senate run has produced a closely contested Iowa 2nd District general election between Democratic state Rep. Lindsay James, who won her June 2 primary, and Republican former state Rep. Joe Mitchell, who secured his party’s nomination the same day. Forecasters rate the Northeast Iowa district, encompassing Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, and Dubuque, as leaning Republican yet competitive. Recent primary turnout and candidate profiles have kept trader-implied probabilities nearly even, with limited polling data and the absence of an incumbent leaving room for shifts ahead of November based on campaign fundraising, endorsements, and national midterm dynamics.
