The 2026 Quebec general election campaign opened on August 27 with voting set for October 5, creating immediate uncertainty across ridings including Maskinongé. Incumbent CAQ MNA Simon Allaire initially signaled he would not seek re-election before reversing course to run again, preserving party continuity in a seat the CAQ held with 53.5% in 2022. Opposing him are PQ nominee Isabelle Blais, a local actress who secured her party's nomination in April, PLQ candidate Nancy Mignault, QS candidate Simon Piotte, and PCQ candidate Marc-André Cloutier. Provincial polling trends showing a competitive multi-party environment, combined with the short timeline before advance voting begins in late September, have kept implied probabilities tightly clustered near 50% for leading contenders. Local factors such as candidate visibility, regional economic concerns, and turnout dynamics in the Mauricie area could widen gaps as the campaign progresses.
