American Express maintains an 82.5% market-implied probability of commanding the higher valuation by December 31, 2026, driven primarily by its established public market capitalization near $230–240 billion versus Stripe’s $159 billion private tender valuation set in February 2026. Amex’s affluent-cardholder spending has sustained 9–10% revenue growth guidance for 2026, with EPS targets of $17.30–17.90 supporting earnings momentum and share-price stability. Stripe posted robust 34% payment-volume expansion to $1.9 trillion in 2025 and remains profitable, yet its valuation trajectory relies on further tender offers or a potential late-year IPO that has not yet materialized. The roughly $70 billion gap gives Amex a wide buffer against near-term volatility in either company’s fundamentals or broader equity multiples.
