Sho Shimabukuro, the higher-ranked Japanese player at world No. 103, faces Greek rising talent Stefanos Sakellaridis, ranked No. 197, in the opening round of qualifying at the 2026 Stuttgart Open on grass. Shimabukuro holds a career-high ranking achieved in late May and leads the head-to-head after limited prior meetings, though Sakellaridis defeated him in straight-sets comeback fashion during Roland Garros qualifying on clay just weeks earlier. Both players enter with modest 2026 win-loss records, and the surface switch to grass favors quicker points and different movement patterns. Sakellaridis, at 6-foot-6 and age 21, brings size and recent momentum on the Challenger circuit, while Shimabukuro draws on greater ATP main-draw experience as Japan’s top-ranked player.
