Borneo FC Samarinda enters the BRI Super League 2026/27 opener as runners-up from the prior campaign, hosting Persija Jakarta at Stadion Segiri where home support and a strong recent head-to-head record provide an edge. Persija, under new coach Shin Tae-yong, arrives with momentum from a solid pre-season that included a 4-0 friendly win over Brisbane Roar, though the side has not prevailed at this venue since 2018. Both clubs field new managers making their league debuts—Mauro Jeronimo for Borneo and Shin for Persija—after extensive training camps and roster adjustments. Recent form shows Borneo competitive in pre-season tests while Persija demonstrated attacking promise, setting up a matchup where home advantage and historical patterns weigh against the visitors' preparation and motivation for an early points haul.
