The Chicago Cubs hold home-field advantage at Wrigley Field against an Athletics club dealing with multiple key absences, including shortstop Jacob Wilson (shoulder) and infielder Max Muncy (hand) on the injured list. Both teams enter the series after 3-7 stretches, though the Cubs maintain a stronger overall record at 32-28 compared to Oakland’s 28-31. Chicago’s rotation has shown more depth despite recent injuries, with starters like Edward Cabrera and Matthew Boyd nearing returns, while the Athletics continue to manage pitching depth issues after placing Luis Severino on the IL. Oakland’s road performance remains inconsistent, and the matchup pits a power-oriented A’s lineup against Cubs pitching that has performed better in front of their home crowd this season.
