Second-seeded Coco Gauff, ranked No. 3, enters her Porsche Tennis Grand Prix second-round matchup against No. 21 Liudmila Samsonova with a perfect 2-0 head-to-head record, including a 6-3, 6-3 quarterfinal win at last year's Washington Open. Gauff benefits from a bye and superior clay Elo ratings, but faces rust after nearly three weeks without match play amid the hard-to-clay transition. Samsonova snapped a six-match losing streak with a dominant 6-0, 6-4 first-round rout of Antonia Ruzic on April 13, gaining rhythm on Stuttgart's unique indoor clay—slippery and fast, which Gauff has described as uncomfortable and disruptive to her defensive movement. Trader consensus favors Gauff's counterpunching edge, though Samsonova's flat power and serve reliability pose upset potential in extended rallies.
