Proposals for a UK- and France-led multinational force, signed in principle in January 2026, focus on post-ceasefire deterrence, training, and regeneration roles contingent on a peace agreement. Russian President Vladimir Putin warned on September 14 that any such troop deployment, even as peacekeepers, would constitute an act of war. Recent Russian drone strikes near the Polish border have prompted NATO statements of resolve and additional support but no shift toward direct intervention. Traders assess low near-term probability of combat troops given these structural and diplomatic barriers.
