Gold prices, recently pulling back from three-month highs near $4,700 to trade around $4,450–$4,600, face immediate pressure from persistent U.S. inflation, with July core PCE at 3.7%. Hawkish comments from Fed officials and market-implied odds of a September rate hike near 34% support a firmer dollar and higher Treasury yields, weighing on the non-yielding metal despite Treasury bond buybacks and central bank demand. Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole speech and the upcoming week’s U.S. data—ADP employment, ISM manufacturing, and August nonfarm payrolls—represent the key near-term catalysts that could shift rate expectations and volatility. Trader positioning reflects these macro tensions, with gold’s bullish bias intact above the 200-day SMA but sensitive to any hawkish policy signals.
