Trader consensus on April 9 TSA checkpoint passenger volumes remains tightly split, with >2.8 million and 2.4M-2.6M outcomes both at 49.5%, reflecting uncertainty in the spring break travel surge's tail end amid lingering TSA staffing shortages from the recent partial government shutdown, which led to over 450 officer quits and recruitment lags. Daily throughput has fluctuated recently—2.71 million on Thursday, April 2; 2.71 million on Monday, April 6; averaging 2.54 million over the past week—falling short of Airlines for America’s 2.8 million daily March-April forecast despite record 171 million passengers projected. A weather event, airline capacity adjustments, or post-spring break demand drop could tip volumes toward lower bins, while sustained leisure travel might push above 2.8 million.
