Virginia voters narrowly approved the redistricting referendum in the April 21, 2026, special election, with roughly 51% supporting the constitutional amendment that empowers the General Assembly to temporarily redraw congressional districts ahead of the 2031 cycle and 2026 midterms. This outcome, projected by major outlets like AP and CNN amid high early voting turnout in Democratic strongholds, reflects trader consensus on passage, pushing Yes probability to 100% as official certification nears. The Democratic-led initiative bypasses the bipartisan commission amid partisan battles over gerrymandering. Pending lawsuits in the Virginia Supreme Court challenging ballot wording and procedural issues represent the primary remaining risk, though historical precedents favor voter-approved amendments holding.
