Alaska’s nonpartisan primary on August 18, 2026, advances the top four candidates to the November general election under ranked-choice voting. Incumbent Republican Nick Begich, who won the seat in 2024, faces a field that includes Democratic and independent challengers such as Matt Schultz and Bill Hill after the June 1 candidate filing deadline closed. Mary Peltola, the former representative, is not running for the House seat. National Democratic organizations have directed resources toward the contest, while the open primary format and multiple candidates fragment support and heighten the role of turnout and second-choice rankings in determining who advances.
