Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz enters the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters round of 16 with sharp form after a dominant 6-1, 6-3 second-round win over Sebastian Baez on Tuesday, extending his clay streak to 14 matches and 2026 record to 19-2 overall. World No. 1 Alcaraz thrives on the slow clay at Monte Carlo Country Club, leveraging heavy topspin forehand and elite movement, while holding a 1-0 head-to-head edge over Tomas Martin Etcheverry from their 2020 Trieste Challenger clay encounter. Etcheverry arrives with momentum, upsetting Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in the first round before grinding past Terence Atmane 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, boasting a 12-2 clay mark this year including the Rio title. The Argentine's baseline resilience and height advantage (196 cm) test Alcaraz in extended rallies, though fatigue from three-setters could factor on the outdoor clay courts.
