Carlos Alcaraz, the world No. 1 and defending Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters champion, enters this third-round clay-court clash with surging momentum after a dominant 6-1, 6-3 straight-sets win over Sebastian Baez, extending his clay win streak to 14 matches and overall 2026 record to 19-2. Etcheverry, ranked No. 30, advanced via gritty three-set victories over Grigor Dimitrov and Terence Atmane, leveraging his strong clay form (12-2 this year, including the Rio title) and baseline resilience, though facing a steep step-up against Alcaraz's superior topspin, movement, and return pressure on the slow Monte Carlo surface. Alcaraz leads their lone head-to-head 1-0 from a 2020 Challenger; no major injury concerns reported for either ahead of this ATP Masters 1000 matchup.
