**A persistent heat dome over the Midwest, combined with southwesterly flow and elevated dew points, is the main driver keeping Chicago's overnight minimums elevated ahead of September 2.** Official forecasts from multiple sources show lows in the upper 70s°F (around 78–81°F) under partly cloudy skies, with heat indices near 100°F during the day. This represents a significant departure from the 1991–2020 climatological average low of ~64°F for the date, driven by above-normal temperatures and humidity that limit radiational cooling. Model consensus currently favors continued warm advection rather than any early cold front, though minor shifts in timing or cloud cover could trim a degree or two. With resolution hinging on the official NWS minimum, traders are pricing the bulk of probability in the 70–85°F range while assigning only 25% to 86°F or higher.
