Leonard Krog, the incumbent mayor of Nanaimo since 2018, leads the market at 71% as he seeks a third term in the October 17, 2026, general local election. His July 2026 announcement emphasized basic municipal services, building on prior provincial and local experience that typically confers an incumbency edge in British Columbia municipal races. Anne Marie Dryden trails at 22% as the mayoral candidate for the Real Nanaimo slate, which launched in May 2026 and highlights fiscal responsibility, public safety, and accountability. The remaining field consists largely of undeclared or placeholder candidates at 50%, with official nominations not closing until September 11. Trader sentiment aligns with the early stage of the campaign period beginning in September, where limited organized opposition and Krog’s established profile shape current implied probabilities ahead of advance voting on October 7 and 14.
