The S&P 500 closed at 7,711.76 on August 28, 2026, within 1.4% of its August 13 record high of 7,816.70 and up 12.65% year-to-date, with AI-driven momentum from Nvidia’s strong second-quarter results and guidance providing the dominant lift even as broader participation lagged. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks on persistent inflation above the 2% target prompted a rise in Treasury yields and increased market-implied odds of a September rate hike, weighing on sentiment late in the week. Traders will focus on the August nonfarm payrolls release on September 4, along with JOLTS job openings, ADP employment, and ISM services data early in the week of August 31, as these releases will refine expectations for monetary policy and near-term equity valuation support.
