Daniel Merida Aguilar rides momentum into this Barcelona Open qualifier against Francesco Maestrelli, fresh off a Bucharest Challenger clay final last week where he upset Adrian Mannarino before falling to Mariano Navone, capping a six-match win streak. The Spaniard, ranked No. 101, also holds a 1-0 head-to-head edge, defeating Maestrelli 6-2, 6-4 in February's Tenerife Challenger final on hard courts. Maestrelli (No. 113) counters with a five-match skid, including a Monte-Carlo qualifying loss to Alexander Blockx on clay days ago. Home-crowd support and Merida's wild card boost his edge on outdoor clay in favorable spring weather, though upsets remain possible in ATP qualifiers.
