Recent National Weather Service guidance and ensemble model consensus point to a high near 74–78°F in Chicago on September 17 under mostly cloudy skies with a 40–60% chance of showers, limiting daytime heating and producing the tight clustering of market-implied odds around the 74–79°F bins. A strengthening onshore flow from the northeast and increasing mid-level moisture ahead of a weak trough are the main drivers keeping temperatures below recent late-summer peaks, while any breaks in cloud cover or delayed shower development could push readings into the upper 70s. Historical climatology for mid-September shows typical highs near 75°F, but the current pattern’s elevated dew points and reduced insolation introduce modest downside risk that traders appear to be weighting evenly across the leading outcomes. Updated NWS short-range guidance and high-resolution model runs expected later today will be the next key inputs for refining the temperature distribution.
