Daniel Merida Aguilar holds a narrow ranking edge at No. 101 over Francesco Maestrelli (No. 113) entering this Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell qualifying first-round clash on outdoor clay, with trader consensus reflecting his superior recent clay form after surging to the Bucharest Challenger final last week—upsetting seeded Adrian Mannarino en route before a three-set loss to Mariano Navone. Maestrelli arrives off a straight-sets qualifying defeat to Alexander Blockx in Monte Carlo five days prior. Merida also owns their lone head-to-head win (6-2, 6-4) from February's Tenerife Challenger on hardcourt, bolstered by home-crowd support as a Spaniard; no injuries or withdrawals noted, though stamina on the short clay swing could prove pivotal.
