Andrey Rublev, the fifth seed and higher-ranked player, holds a 4-2 head-to-head edge over Lorenzo Sonego entering their Barcelona Open round-of-16 clash on clay, though Sonego leads 2-1 on this surface, including a straight-sets win in their last clay encounter. Both advanced via gritty first-round wins yesterday—Rublev defeating recent clay titlist Mariano Navone 6-4, 7-5 with strong serving, and Sonego outlasting Spaniard Pedro Martinez 6-2, 6-7(3), 6-4 in a three-setter showcasing his baseline resilience. Rublev's baseline power suits clay better lately despite a Monte Carlo second-round exit, while Sonego's topspin-heavy game and surface affinity offer upset potential amid trader consensus favoring the Russian's form and seeding. No injury concerns reported for either ahead of the outdoor match.
