Traders see the lowest temperature in Chicago on August 29 as highly uncertain, with market-implied odds clustered tightly between the 64–65 °F range (35 %) and 74 °F or higher (33 %), reflecting divergent National Weather Service model guidance on overnight radiational cooling. Key variables include the strength of any passing shortwave trough, cloud-cover thickness that could limit longwave radiation loss, and Lake Michigan’s moderating influence on boundary-layer mixing. Historical late-August climatology shows typical overnight lows near 65 °F, but small shifts in dew-point depression or wind speed can swing the minimum several degrees either way. Updated forecast discussions and 00Z/12Z model runs expected overnight will likely narrow the spread before the market resolves.
