Trader consensus reflects a 74% implied probability for under 500 US flight cancellations on March 28, driven by the lack of widespread severe weather following mid-March blizzards that canceled thousands of flights across major hubs like Chicago, Atlanta, and New York. The FAA's daily air traffic report anticipates only high-wind delays at Northeast airports including EWR, JFK, LGA, and PHL, far short of triggering mass cancellations. Persistent partial government shutdown effects, including TSA staffing shortages and FAA-mandated schedule reductions at 40 airports, have sustained modest daily disruptions—such as 188 cancellations on March 23—without escalating to shutdown-induced chaos. Absent strikes, ground stops, or new storms, live FlightAware data shows cancellations tracking below the threshold.
