Alexander Shevchenko, ranked No. 77 with ATP experience, enters the BMW Open qualifying first round as the clear experience favorite against No. 258 Diego Dedura-Palomero on Munich's outdoor clay courts. The 25-year-old Kazakh recently showed clay competitiveness by upsetting Roberto Bautista Agut 7-6(3), 7-6(4) in Monte Carlo qualifying before a 0-2 loss to Marin Cilic, amid a 13-13 2026 record. In contrast, 18-year-old German left-hander Dedura-Palomero rides momentum from a career-high ranking and Madrid Challenger run, boasting a strong 38-23 lifetime clay mark at lower levels, plus home-crowd edge. No head-to-head exists; no injuries reported, though spring weather could factor in this best-of-three matchup resolving today.
