Silver (XAG/USD) trades near $66 per ounce in late September 2026 after retreating from January highs above $120, pressured by hawkish Federal Reserve communications that have reinforced expectations for additional rate hikes and elevated real yields. Higher Treasury yields and a firmer dollar increase the opportunity cost of holding the non-yielding metal, offsetting a sixth consecutive annual supply deficit projected at 46.3 million ounces. Industrial demand faces headwinds from solar photovoltaic thrifting, though AI infrastructure, electric vehicles, and grid investment provide partial support. Traders are monitoring upcoming Fed speeches and economic data releases for shifts in rate-path expectations that could influence near-term price action around key technical levels near $65 support and $71 resistance.
