The federal criminal case against the Southern Poverty Law Center centers on an April 2026 indictment alleging wire fraud, false statements to a federally insured bank, and conspiracy to commit concealment money laundering tied to undisclosed payments of donor funds to informants within extremist groups between 2010 and 2023. The organization entered a not guilty plea, and its motion to dismiss on grounds of vindictive prosecution was denied in August 2026. A second superseding indictment added charges against a former employee. Jury selection had been scheduled for October 2026, but in early September the court delayed the trial until February 2027. With no verdict possible before the end of 2026, traders assign a 93% implied probability that the SPLC will not be found guilty this year.
