Silver (XAG/USD) surged above $70 per ounce late in the week of August 24, 2026, extending a roughly 20% August rally fueled by the debasement trade—concerns over U.S. fiscal sustainability, expanded Treasury bond buybacks, and a softer dollar—alongside persistent structural deficits projected at 46 million ounces for the sixth straight year. Industrial demand from solar, EVs, electronics, and AI continues to outpace mine supply, while the gold/silver ratio compressed toward 65 amid safe-haven flows. Traders are watching Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks for signals on September rate policy, with core inflation data and dollar strength remaining key swing factors for near-term price action.
